Sudbourne Park

Sudbourne, Suffolk (TM 40705135)

Located in a conifer plantation, this pit has been excavated by Alan Lane and other collectors in recent years. Harmer proved the presence of London Clay at this locality at a depth of 9.45m, or 8.23m below Ordnance Datum (OD). The Coralline Crag exposed here belongs to the Ramsholt Member, the most northerly locality showing this formation. The strongly bioturbated sediments contain a rich and well-preserved fauna, including thin shell beds formed of ramose celleporid bryozoans, and also large terebratulid brachiopods encrusted by bryozoans.
